Held During “Health & Well-being Week”
At Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, each week will focus on a different global challenge. Not only the event organizers but also official participants, the Japanese government, local governments, co-creation project participants, exhibitors, and representatives from industries across Japan will gather to engage in “dialogue programs” to discuss solutions and “business networking” to take concrete action. These initiatives will be structured as Theme Weeks.
One of these, “Health & Well-being Week,” is scheduled for late June. HEALTH DESIGN will be held in alignment with this theme week, reinforcing its concept.
Health & Well-being Week June 20 (Fri) – July 1 (Tue)
How can we create a society where individual well-being resonates collectively?
At our exhibition booth, we effectively disseminate information on innovative research and
development in the fields of regenerative medicine, cell therapy, and gene therapy through our
efforts in clinical research support, technical support for practical application, strengthening
human resource development systems, matching support, and event organization. Specifically,
we provide experiences using a character to help children and students who may become
future researchers learn about the basics of regenerative medicine. For researchers and
investors, we will exhibit videos on the latest research in regenerative medicine (such as iPS
cells and organoids) and display actual cultured cells and other specimens.
The National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities conducts research, development,
and promotion of assistive technologies that reflect the needs of persons with disabilities. The
aim is to facilitate their independence and social participation and improve their quality of life. At
this booth, we will demonstrate the following four topics through hands-on experience: (1) Switch
Input System that Utilizes Eye Movements, (2) Gesture Recognition Interface, (3) Remote Work
Support Robot, and (4) efforts to promote the use of prosthetic hands for children.
①VR Experience Space: Through immersive virtual reality technology, visitors can experience
and understand the perspective of people living with dementia. This helps build empathy and
promotes the creation of an inclusive society. ②Exhibition Space: Features videos of KIBO
TAISHI (Hope Ambassadors) appointed by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare,
sharing their positive experiences of living with dementia. The space also displays a timeline
showing the evolution of dementia awareness in Japan and globally.
The main themes of the Osaka/Kansai Expo include contributing to the improvement of the
quality of health and medical care, demonstrating the ideal of a sustainable society where
people can enjoy healthy living and longevity, and presenting the Japanese model of healthcare
services to the world. In order to effectively communicate to the world the future-focused and
inspirational vision of Japanese pharmaceutical and medical device companies, we will project
attractive near-future stories, created in cooperation with Japanese companies, regarding
advanced pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and medical care.
The “Promotion of Technology such as Care Robots” exhibit showcases technology for
long-term care and offers hands-on experiences. Aimed at promoting the use of these
technologies, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) seeks to reduce caregiver’s
workload and enhance service quality. The exhibit is designed to be accessible to everyone,
even those unfamiliar with long-term care, by demonstrating how technology can address
challenges at every stage of life.
Achieving universal health coverage (UHC) leads to the prevention of the risk of people falling
into poverty and/or damaging their health, through ensuring that everyone can access basic
health services at an affordable cost. For our better understanding of UHC, a simple and
accessible video explaining “What is UHC?” will be presented. In addition, an interactive
exhibition will allow visitors to see what a society with UHC looks like, helping them understand
its importance more intuitively.
Visitors can experience new services utilizing personal health records (PHR), related to a wide
range of services such as exercise, diet, sleep, and lifestyle. Through the experience, you will
glimpse into the future of a health-focused society, where you can naturally enhance your
well-being by simply living in a way that feels true to yourself.
Our area showcases the most advanced medical and assistive devices presented by 13
Japanese companies. Visitors can experience robotic-assisted surgery system, AI-based
diagnostic imaging support system, and wearable devices using supersonic waves. We will
provide a taste of the future where visitors can enjoy advanced medical services.
